Peter L. Mehegan commented on a range of political and social topics in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) in late September 2025.
On September 24, 2025, Mehegan reflected on a recent joke he found notable for its humor and timing. He wrote, “His joke about ‘mourning like a four-year-old mourns his goldfish’ was funny. It might be the first funny joke in years. Timing was great. I chuckled. I’ve even enjoyed the conniptions from the camp that set the precedent for cancellation. (Watched it wrapped in outrage on X)”.
The following day, Mehegan questioned public perceptions surrounding law enforcement agencies and criminal justice issues, stating on September 25, 2025: “Wow. I’m wondering if anyone told him ICE was the gestapo…What do you think? For me, when you murder, you lose all right to sex, pigmentation or affiliation, you are a criminal identifies as murder.”
Later that morning, he addressed former President Donald Trump’s experiences with legal scrutiny and threats to his safety: “Yeah…but Trump has been harassed, falsely accused, the victim of two coup attempts and the Russia hoax, and shot at or targeted twice. Those perps are evil. He has license. The antecedent matters.”
Mehegan’s remarks reference ongoing debates over political discourse and law enforcement in the United States as well as controversies surrounding Donald Trump’s presidency and post-presidency period. During Trump’s time in office and afterwards, there have been persistent claims of politically motivated investigations—often referred to by supporters as “witch hunts”—and allegations regarding coup attempts related to impeachment proceedings and other efforts to remove him from office.
ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has also been at the center of contentious debate regarding immigration enforcement practices; critics have sometimes used strong language comparing its actions to historical authoritarian police forces such as the Gestapo—a comparison rejected by many analysts as historically inaccurate.
Mehegan’s comments illustrate how social media platforms continue to serve as venues for individuals to express personal views on high-profile national issues.
