Town in Henniker issued the following announcement on July 14.
Acoustic Septet Peabody’s Coal Train Rides the Rails into Henniker July 20th
According to one media source: “Some bands are perfect in a certain type of venue. For Peabody’s Coal Train,
that’s a country store with a wooden floor and rustic charm”. Or perhaps it’s an outdoor bandstand on a warm
July night under the stars where their eclectic mix of murder ballads, Townes Van Zandt covers and other
contemporary and original songs waiver between traditional bluegrass to new country and beyond.
Peabody’s Coal Train (the name comes from a line in a John Prine song) is a unique, local NH acoustic Americana
6-piece band featuring strings and shared vocal harmonies. Musicians include Jason Teaster on acoustic guitar,
Dave Anderson on harmonica, Steve Cybulski on banjo, Dave Carroll on mandolin, Larry Houghton on upright
bass, and Scott Hayes on guitar and dobro. Their home is the Contoocook River Valley. Teaster calls them a
“Contoocook Valley supergroup” as they represent the merger of two bands. Playing originals and covers, telling
stories which celebrate the triumphs and tragedies of the human condition, they are a talented, tight, highly sought
group of musicians well-known in our area, although this is their first time playing the Henniker Summer Concert
Series.
The Henniker Summer Music Series is sponsored by the town of Henniker. All concerts are free (although
donations to the Town of Henniker are welcome), begin at 6:30 PM and take place at the Angela Robinson
Bandstand at Community Park, Main Street.
We continue to follow current best practices from the CDC as we plan for an exciting and safe summer series. As
we see increases in vaccination rates and a decrease in infection rates (Henniker has had zero new instances of
COVID in at least two weeks) and, as the State of New Hampshire continues to allow more activities, especially
outdoors where the CDC indicates the risk of COVID infection is minimal, the Henniker Board of Selectmen
approved removing the fencing around Community Park and the need to mark out squares for the Summer Concert
Series. We ask you to use your own judgment in deciding whether or not to wear masks and/or to socially distance.
There is no provision for moving indoors this summer, so if there is inclement weather, the concert will be
cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday. Bring a chair, spread a blanket, visit a local restaurant or have a picnic
supper on the lawn and join your neighbors and friends in this community-building event at our bandstand. The
complete summer schedule is available on the Town of Henniker website: www.henniker.org. For more
information, contact hennikerconcerts@henniker.org. Check https://facebook.com/HennikerConcert the day of
the concert to receive updated weather information regarding cancellation.
