Most Americans believe parents should take action to oppose critical race theory (CRT) if it is being taught in their children's schools, according to a new poll by the Trafalgar Group.

CRT is a collection of legal and academic works from civil-rights scholars and activists whose goal is to critically examine race and the law and how they affect one another, and to challenge mainstream American views on racial justice.

CRT has been a hot-button issue across the nation, with New Hampshire recently passing a law that prohibits the teaching of the theory in the public school system or within government agencies, according to SeacoastOnline. The bill was passed by the New Hampshire Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Chris Sununu (R).

The poll conducted by the Trafalgar Group, in conjunction with the Convention of States Action, surveyed 1,091 likely general election voters on their views regarding CRT.

The poll finds that about half of Americans believe that parents who oppose CRT being taught in their children's schools should take action against it, with 51.8% backing action.

However, the survey also found that there wasn’t a consensus on what action to take, with 27.7% supporting removing a child from public school and 24.1% saying that parents should run or support candidates for school board who are opposed to the teaching of CRT, who would then take control of the school's governing body.

The results were clearly split by party, with Republicans being the most likely to support action against CRT, with 71.3% of GOP-aligned respondents supporting action, compared to only 38.5% of Democrats and 43.7% of independents or third-party respondents.

The Convention of States Action is a grassroots political organization with over 5 million supporters across the U.S. The organization's objective is "to restore a culture of self-governance in America and to curtail federal overreach."

The Trafalgar Group is a public polling and market research firm that Real Clear Politics called the "most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple Senate and governor races,” according to its website.
