New York City authorities said they arrested a man and a woman on Oct. 17 for charges of witness tampering and child endangerment in connection with a missing Merrimack, New Hampshire, boy.

At the time, authorities were still searching for the child.

“Anyone with information on Elijah Lewis’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Merrimack Police Department’s Crimeline at (603) 424-2424 or New Hampshire State Police Communications at (603) 223-4381 or 603-MCU-TIPS (603-628-8477),” Bronx Times Reporter tweeted on Oct. 20.

Authorities said the warrant was for Danielle Dauphinais, the mother, and Joseph Stapf, Dauphinais’ partner, WCAX3 reported. Dauphinais and Stapf were arrested for witness tampering and child endangerment.

Lewis is a 5-year-old boy who has not been seen in over six months. The New Hampshire’s Division for Children, Youth and Families notified the police of the boy’s disappearance on Oct. 14.

The couple was found and arrested in the Bronx, New York. The investigation then took police to Massachusetts.

According to updated reporting from NBC10 Boston, what is believed to be Lewis' body was found Oct. 23 in Abington and Plymouth, Massachusetts. No one has yet been charged in the boy's death, but the investigation is ongoing. Investigators have not revealed what led them to the specific area where the boy's body was found.

"We are very saddened about this situation -- about Elijah's death, about the fact that he was disposed of down here in the woods," Susan Morrell, a senior assistant attorney general for New Hampshire, told NBC10 Boston. "Our sympathies go out to his family and friends of the family and  to the community who's mourning his death, and we do appreciate all of the help from the community."
