The University of New Hampshire (UNH) women’s hockey team has struggled to start the season, but the Wildcats were finally able to get into the winning column last week with a 4-1 victory over archrival University of Maine.

According to The New Hampshire, The Wildcats improved to 1-5-1 while the Black Bears fell to 2-6-0 and remain winless in the conference with a 0-3-0 record. UNH headed to the internet to rejoice over the big win at the Whittemore Center Arena.

“That’s a wrap here at the Whitt! The Wildcats get the win over the University of Maine by a final score of 4-1,” UNH Women's Hockey tweeted on Oct. 22.

The New Hampshire reported that UNH came out firing with two goals that were only 20 seconds apart during the first period. In the sixth minute, Paige Rynne scored on an assist by Tamara Thierus. Seconds later, the Wildcats went up 2-0 on a goal by Kira Juodikis with an assist by Brianna Brooks and Charli Kettyle.

Brooks scored in the ninth minute of the second period to make it 3-0 on a goal assisted by Thierus and Maddie Truax. GoBlackBears.com reported that Ally Johnson of Maine scored on a power play goal at the 11:12 mark with assists by Ida Press and Elise Murphy.

Kettyle scored her first goal of the season on an open-net goal at the end of the third period in the 16th minute.

Senior goalie Ava Boutilier tallied 30 saves, including 12 in the third period, according to The New Hampshire. She posted a .968 save percentage in the win.
