New Hampshire Women's Bar Association (NHWBA) Supports The Chase Home

21

Recently, the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association (NHWBA) donated gift cards, plants, seeds, tools, and money to support The Chase Home and its garden. Historically, The Chase Home grows a variety of produce in its garden for the nearly dozen youth who live there during the summer.

Founded in 1877, The Chase Home in Portsmouth provides at-risk youth across the state with prevention, early intervention, residential, and community-based services. “Kids, their families, and staff often work together to help grow the produce,” said The Chase Home Executive Director Meme Wheeler, who expressed appreciation for NHWBA’s support. “We are so grateful for their contribution, because it helps us get a head start on hopefully expanding it into a community garden.”

Started in 1998 to support the advancement of women in the legal profession across New Hampshire, NHWBA selected The Chase Home as its public service beneficiary during the NHWBA’s Annual Retreat in early April. “Our members worked together to support The Chase Home and the work that it does to support children and families from the Seacoast and around the state,” said Attorney and NHWBA public service committee member Meredith Lasna of Pastori | Krans, PLLC. “I hope our members’ donations to support The Chase Home’s garden will help them have a successful harvest that their residents, staff, and others can enjoy.”

Regarding the NHWBA’s mission, Attorney and NHWBA Board Member Meredith Farrell Goldstein of Orr & Reno said the NHWBA is committed to achieving gender equity in the legal profession. “We promote the advancement and interests of women through leadership, professional development, and education,” she said.

In looking to anticipate bounty from the garden, Wheeler cited philanthropic goals of her own. “This garden also benefits those served by Gather, so I hope we can continue and expand upon that this year,” she explained. “With NHWBA’s contributions and Rotary Club of Portsmouth’s support last year, it’s wonderful to see this garden continue to literally ‘grow.’”
