It took 40 minutes for Merrimack fire rescue and police to extricate a man badly injured in a two-vehicle accident on Black River Road on the night of Oct. 25.
According to Patch, first responders arrived at 8:45 p.m. and found a badly damaged white vehicle with a man trapped inside. A second vehicle sustained minor damage, and all passengers were outside of the vehicle when help arrived.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life and additional tools to cut through the heavily damaged car in an effort to rescue the main inside. A Merrimack paramedic arrived at the scene and began treating the unidentified man while firefighters continued their rescue efforts.
It took an estimated 40 minutes for the man to be rescued and prepared for transport to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with serious lower extremity injuries.
Witnesses indicated that the white vehicle was traveling north on Back River Road and drove onto a lawn, hit a fence, trees and a large rock before coming to a stop. The second vehicle appears to have minor damage and may have been struck by the white vehicle as it came to a stop.
Merrimack police are continuing to investigate, and no information on the names or ages of the victims were yet available.
