New Hampshire officials have begun to sound the alarm that COVID-19 cases are likely to increase due the upcoming holidays and people gathering inside due to colder weather.
"Obviously, we're very concerned about the rise in COVID numbers," Gov. Chris Sununu (R) told WMUR9.
U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (D-Hopkinton) posted on Twitter that all adults, regardless of age or health status, can now receive a COVID-19 booster shot.
“Great news: All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot. As cases rise here in New Hampshire, this move will help combat the spread as we head into the holiday season,” she tweeted Nov. 19.
Sununu, along with state health officials, are worried that there could be another wave of COVID-19 cases, according to WMUR9.
"It's sad, but there's a lot of folks that don't appreciate the severity of it until they see a loved one or a neighbor that's in the hospital or a tough situation, and then it starts to hit home for them," Sununu told WMUR9. "So, sometimes it's those real-world examples that start driving folks to say, 'Yeah, I've really got to get this vaccine.'"
Currently, cases of COVID-19 in the state are higher than they were last January, prompting health officials to urge the unvaccinated to get the shot as soon as possible. However, WMUR9 reported that there hasn’t been a substantial rise in adult vaccinations in months.
